Half-moon manicure DIY

Half-moon hands: the trend of the moment

Want to make a statement with your manicure? Then request this season’s hottest trend next time you visit the nail bar – the half-moon manicure. Otherwise known as the moonicure or the reverse french, this quirky take on the regular manicure has been around for decades, but has recently come to the fore after a handful of stars have been papped showcasing such nail art (most notably Dita Von Teese, who can’t seem to get enough of the design).

Boasting both vintage style and classic elegance, when created with a combination of on-trend colours, the half-moon manicure can be brought bang up to date.

The simple design need not even be left to the professionals; you can perfect it from the comfort of your very home, DIY-stylee. All you need is two opaque colours (black and white is very on-trend, as Rihanna demonstrates) and a pack of french nail tip stickers or if you’re on a strict budget, ring binder hole reinforcements.

1. Paint your nails in one colour (preferably the lighter colour of the two as this will be easier to paint over in the later stage) and wait for it to dry fully (an hour should be plenty)

2. Apply the nail tip stickers about 2/3 of the way down each nail i.e. where the cuticle is

3. Paint above the sticker in the other colour, wait for it to dry and carefully remove the sticker – voila!

Telltale tip: For extra style points, alternate each colour so your cuticles go (for example) white-black-white-black-white
